Competent authority: National Center for Recognition and Validation of Diplomas (CNRED)
CNRED evaluates and recognizes documents of studies obtained abroad by the citizens of the EU/EEA and of the Swiss Confederation and their family members, as well for citizens that are beneficiaries of a form of international protection, and also for citizens of non-EU countries, in order for them to continue their studies in Romania or to access the Romanian labour market.
CNRED recognizes and evaluates the documents of studies obtained abroad by assessing and determining the level, main field of studies and / or specialization compared to the Romanian education system.
• Following the assessment, CNRED can automatically recognize or by applying difference examinations or other compensatory measures, the level, field of study and / or specialization. When applying difference examinations or other compensatory measures, CNRED collaborates with County School Inspectorates and the Bucharest School Inspectorate. CNRED recognizes, based on a file, the study documents attesting graduation of baccalureate examination, vocational school and post-secondary school.
• CNRED recognizes documents of higher education studies obtained abroad by assessing and determining the level, main field of studies and/ or specialization compared to the Romanian education system. The procedures of recognition and validation of diplomas for bachelor, master and Ph.D applies to diplomas obtained at universities in third countries, except for prestigious universities in these countries for which the automatic recognition procedure is applied.
Following the assessment, CNRED can automatically recognize or by applying difference examinations or other compensatory measures, the level, field of study and / or specialization. When applying difference examinations or other compensatory measures, CNRED collaborates with the higher education institutions. CNRED issues the Certificate of validation/recognition and his procedure applies both to continue studies in Romania, as well as access to the labor market.
• The recognition for the access to the Romanian labour market for citizens of the EU/EEA member states and the Swiss Confederation, and for their family members, as well for the citizens that are beneficiaries of a form of international protection, is made in accordance with the procedure presented here (see the links)
Documents needed for recognition of academic and professional qualifications:
• Study document for validation/ recognition: in copy, if the study document is issued in Romanian, English, French, Spanish, Italian language;
• Diploma supplement / Record of study sheet – if the recognition of the specialization is required or the field of study is not mentioned on the diploma: in copy, if the study certificate is issued in Romanian, English, French, Spanish;
• Other relevant documents, if necessary: analytical programs of the courses carried out, a complete description of the courses/ subjects studied, and any documents related to the completion of postgraduate courses, etc.;
• Personal documents of identification, in copy: passport / identity card; proof of legal name change, if applicable, copy for documents (in Romanian/ English/ French/ Spanish/ Italian) and authorized translation in Romanian for study documents in other languages
• Application form for the recognition of the studies;
• Certificate;
• Order on the approval of the Methodology for recognition and validation of pre-university study documents obtained abroad.
