Naspi is also provided directly by the INPS (National Social Security Institute).
Naspi may be applied for by employees with the following conditions:
state of unemployment (loss of work for reasons beyond the worker’s control); contribution requirement: 13 weeks of contribution in the 4 years preceding the start of unemployment; employment requirement: 30 days of actual work during the 12 months preceding the start of unemployment.
Naspi is paid monthly for a number of weeks equal to half the contribution weeks of the last 4 years up to a maximum of 24 months. There is an allowance of 80% of the average of previous salaries, which is gradually reduced with the passage of months after the third. The occurrence of particular events (maternity, illness, trade union disputes, failure to give notice, dismissal for disciplinary reasons) leads to a postponement or suspension of the limitation period.
To apply for unemployment benefit Naspi is necessary to submit the application to the INPS, electronically, within 68 days from the termination of the employment relationship.
In order to be able to continue to receive this income support benefit, the unemployed person must fulfil certain obligations, non-compliance with which may result in suspension, complete or partial curtailment or even withdrawal of the benefit.
For example, if you lose your unemployment status or if you refuse a job offer in line with your occupational characteristics, you will forfeit your right to benefit. On the other hand, the benefit could be suspended in the event of re-employment under a fixed-term employment contract not exceeding six months.
The special social security scheme (Regulation No 883/2004) applies to the beneficiary of benefit Naspi who goes to another EU country subject to certain conditions which allows the exportability of unemployment benefit with the consequent right to continue to receive it for a maximum of three months.
