As an EU citizen, you have the right to choose your place of residence and work within the EU.
How long can I stay in Germany?
- up to three months without further requirements;
- up to six months or more to find a job;
- as long you wish as employed or as non-employed with own resources and health insurance
If you wish to enter or stay in Germany, you need a valid travel document (identity card / ID card or EU passport). However, an entry visa, residence permit or work permit are not required.
Registration requirement
In Germany there is an obligation to register. You should register for your new place of residence in Germany within two weeks. This registration is made with the local authorities of the municipality or city at the town hall or the citizens’ office (registration office).
Registration must be done in person. You have to fill out and sign a registration form. You can do that for yourself or for your family.
You need the following documents:
- Valid identity card (ID card), passport or passport replacement paper for yourself or all family members
- Housing certificate (signed by your housing provider)
- Lease agreement
Registration with the registration office is free of charge.
