The European Brain Research Centre (CERC)
The structure is entirely dedicated to the activities of Research Line C (Experimental Neuroscience). It houses laboratories and core facilities on a total area of 15,000 square meters. It is located in Via del Fosso di Fiorano in Rome, not far from the Santa Lucia IRCCS Foundation Hospital. CERC also offers spaces and technologies for the realization of partnerships with other research institutions.
Pre-clinical and Translational Research
The Fondazione Santa Lucia IRCCS carries out in the field of neuroscience both pre-clinical and translational research, or oriented to a rapid application of its results in the treatment of patients. The research activity is a constituent element of the Foundation’s mission, to which the Ministry of Health recognized in 1992 the title of Instituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico (IRCCS). The activity of the individual laboratories is coordinated within five Lines of Research.
Regina Elena and San Gallicano Institutes are engaged in biomedical research in oncology and dermatology respectively.
Research is increasingly directed towards translational studies, in accordance with national health planning. A model of scientific activity that allows, starting from biochemical, biomolecular and computational data, to define an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to patient management, in order to apply it in clinical practice quickly. The challenge is to achieve the personalized molecular characterization of all patients, both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, combining the excellence of research and the clinic.
