Schooling

The nursery school welcomes children at the start of compulsory education, which begins at age 3. Kindergarten is an essential step in the students’ journey to guarantee their academic success. Its main mission is to make children want to go to school to learn, assert and develop their personality.

It is a school where children will learn together and live together. They develop their oral language and begin to discover writing, numbers and other areas of learning. They learn by playing, thinking and problem solving, practicing, recalling and memorizing.

Elementary school welcomes children aged 6 to 11.

The programs are national and compulsory for all teachers and students.

The courses are designed by cycle, lasting three years:

  • Cycle 2, or fundamental learning cycle, includes the preparatory course (CP), the first year elementary course (CE1) and the second year elementary course (CE2);
  • Cycle 3, or consolidation cycle, includes the first year average course (CM1) and the second year average course (CM2); the consolidation cycle continues in college, in the sixth grade.

The college is the secondary level establishment which, at the end of elementary school, welcomes all school children. They attend four years of schooling there.

The college accepts all pupils at the end of primary school without a passing exam. It allows all students to be educated in a single setting.

College education has four years: 6th, 5th, 4th and 3rd.

Compulsory education is organized in three-year cycles, which give the time needed to learn better. In college, the sixth is the last year of cycle 3, the other levels make up cycle 4.

At the end of middle school, students can continue their education in a general and technological school or in a vocational school. Schooling takes place in three years: the second, the first and the final.For more info :

Recognition of academic and professional qualifications

The Education Code recognizes that activities (salaried, self-employed, voluntary) allow the acquisition of skills and knowledge which have the same value as those acquired through a traditional training system.

Obtain a diploma or title through VAE

The validation of acquired experience (VAE) makes it possible to obtain, on the basis of professional experience or activities, volunteers in particular, all or part of a professional certification (diploma, title or certificate of professional qualification ) registered in the National Directory of Professional Certifications (RNCP).

The candidate must complete a file in which he describes the main activities that he exercises or has exercised, their contexts of exercise and the resources mobilized.

The evaluation of this file is followed by an interview with an independent jury and including professionals. The achievements of these experiences, in connection with the certification concerned, are evaluated by the jury which decides to validate all or part of the diploma concerned.

In the event of partial validation, recommendations are made to the candidate with a view to obtaining the full diploma.

VAE is an opportunity for adults: training is no longer the only way to obtain certification. VAE is also a tool at the service of the forward management of jobs and companies’ skills.

VAE at National Education

The academic systems for the validation of prior learning (DAVA) control the VAE. They provide information to the public, a key function of any VAE approach. They offer candidates a diagnosis upstream of any commitment to the process as well as support throughout their VAE course to increase the chances of success.

Finally, the DAVA contribute to the development of partnerships with the economic world, in particular with the branches and companies which use the VAE in the forward management of jobs and skills.

Everyone has the right to have their experience recognized:

  • employees ;
  • self-employed;
  • job seekers, compensated or not;
  • people who have carried out social activities, volunteers, etc .;

The only requirement is to have carried out an activity lasting at least one year in relation to the content of the diploma concerned.

From the professional aptitude certificate (CAP) to the higher technician’s certificate (BTS): contact the academic systems for the validation of prior learning (DAVA). There is one per academy.

Education

The French education system is based on principles inspired by the Revolution of 1789, laws passed between 1881 and 1889 and under the Fourth and Fifth Republics as well as the Constitution of October 4, 1958: “the organization of education free and secular compulsory public at all levels is a duty of the State “. It is centralized and managed by the Ministry of National Education.

The public service coexists with private establishments, subject to State control and which can benefit from its aid (in return for a contract signed with the State).

The freedom to organize and provide education is a manifestation of freedom of expression: it is defined by the “Debré law” n ° 59-1557 of December 31, 1959 on freedom of education and relations with private education.

However, the State is the only one authorized to issue diplomas and university degrees: diplomas issued by the private sector have no official value unless they are recognized by the State. The regulation of exams is done nationally.

The principle of free public primary education was established at the end of the 19th century by the law of June 16, 1881 and extended to secondary education by the law of May 31, 1933.

Textbooks are free until the third grade, as well as materials and supplies for collective use. In high schools, textbooks are most often the responsibility of families.

Public education is neutral: philosophical and political neutrality is imposed on teachers and students.
The principle of secularism in religious matters has been the basis of the public education system since the laws of March 28, 1882 and October 30, 1886. The importance of secularism in republican school values was emphasized by the law of December 9, 1905 establishing the secularism of the stateRespect for the beliefs of students and their parents implies: the absence of religious instruction in the programs, secularism of the staff, the prohibition of proselytism.

Since the Jules Ferry law of March 28, 1882, education is compulsory from the age of 3 for all French or foreign children residing in France.

Originally, education was compulsory until the age of 13, then 14 from the law of August 9, 1936.

Since ordinance n ° 59-45 of January 6, 1959, it has been extended until the age of 16. In addition, there is compulsory training for 16 to 18 years old from 2020.

Accidents insurance

The accident of life guarantee (GAV) is used to protect the insured, and possibly his family, from the consequences of everyday accidents. The insurer compensates the insured victim of an accident, if the person responsible is not identified or if the insured is himself the person responsible. The contracts offered by insurers differ, certain elements of the guarantee may already be covered by other insurance (social security, complementary health, bank card, etc.).

The cover may concern the insured only, or also include their children and their spouse, PACS partner or cohabiting partner.

The accident of life guarantee covers bodily injury related to:

  • domestic accidents (burns, falls, DIY, gardening, poisoning, etc.),
  • accidents occurring in the context of leisure activities (sport, travel, etc.),
  • natural (storm, avalanche, earthquake, etc.) or technological disasters (collapse of a store, for example),
  • medical accidents (abnormal and unforeseeable consequences of medical acts)
  • attacks or attacks.

The guarantee does not cover bodily injury linked to road accidents and work accidents, the compensation for which is covered by other insurances.

Insureds can also include exclusion clauses in the contract for specifically designated risks (accidents linked to the practice of certain sports for example).

Documents to be provided:

  •  A copy of your identity document (passport is also accepted)
  •  A copy of your employment contract or your last pay slip.
  •  Proof of address for more than 3 months if you are not an employee
  •  a RIB (Bank Identity Statement)

Sickness/health insurance and disability

Created in 1945, social security is a real revolution. It financially covers part of the drugs, part of the fees of doctors and specialists and part of the health costs (hospitalization, surgery, etc.) of French residents. To benefit from more comprehensive protection, it will be necessary to contact other organizations, private or not, which will offer additional protection.

In some cases, it also allows you to receive daily work accident or sickness indemnities to compensate for lost wages.

If you have been in France for less than 3 months:

You must have health insurance from your country of origin

If you need treatment, you will have to pay.

In the event of a “vital emergency”, if you cannot pay, you can benefit from the urgent care system (Cf “Médecins du Monde”)

If you have been in France for more than 3 months:

If you do not have a job, you will need to have health insurance, you will not be able to benefit from Universal Health Coverage. If you have very low resources, you can benefit from AME (State Medical Aid)

If you work, you are entitled to French health insurance.

Registration

Registration is done by registering with the Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM) of the department of residence and it allows the person concerned to appear on the list of insured persons.

A 13-digit social security number will be issued by the CPAM once the identification of the insured has been made. This number is unique and invariable.

Documents to be provided:

  • A copy of your identity document (passport is also accepted)
  • A copy of your employment contract or your last pay slip.

Family allowances

Family benefits are financial aid granted to those raising children.

They help reduce the differences in living standards between households without children and households with children with the same income.

There are (in 2015) 8 family benefits:

  • family allowances paid from the 2nd dependent child;
  • early childhood care benefit (PAJE) itself comprising four components (birth or adoption premium, basic allowance, additional free choice of childcare, and, depending on the date of birth of the children or their date of adoption, additional free choice of activity or shared provision of child-rearing);
  • family supplement;
  • family housing allowance;
  • education allowance for disabled children;
  • family support allowance;
  • back-to-school allowance;
  • daily parental presence allowance.

The allocation of each of these benefits is subject to specific conditions, in particular related to household income. This is referred to as means-tested benefits, which means that above a certain income threshold, households are no longer entitled to them or that the amount of benefits paid is lower. Thus, since July 2015, the amount of family allowances varies according to household resources (social security financing law for 2015 of 22 December 2014).

Documents to be provided:

  • a copy of your identity document (passport is also accepted)
  • proof of address of more than 3 months
